We just finished a renovation downstairs and I was on the hunt for a coffee table to fit into a small sitting room area and I love the Industrial Chic look but I wasn’t loving the price. Below are a few I was looking at:
I originally thought I would just use the Vittsjo Nesting tables from Ikea (minus the taller one) and maybe spray paint it gold or with a hammered metallic paint of some sort and make pretty. But then thought, why not replace the glass with wood and stain it to look like reclaimed wood….and that is exactly what I did.
I measured the glass insert and headed to Home Depot and had 2 pieces of wood cut. I also picked up some Minwax White Wash Pickling stain and some Rust-Oleum hammered spray paint in black (I had the Minwax Stain in Provincial already at home)
I spray painted the frame of the coffee table and when it dried it was a bit too shiny (sorry I forgot to take a picture) so I just used a sanding block and sanded it every so lightly and it took away most of the shine but left that hammered metal look. Before I stained the wood I took a hammer and some chains and banged it a bit to give it a distressed look. I then stained the wood pieces with the Minwax Prvincial and let that dry.
I love how it turned out and all the different layers of colour and the White Wash Stain gave it a nice grayish tint.
