I have always used Benjamin Moore colours and have written many posts about them but I have found myself exploring Sherwin Williams colours a lot more lately. There are so many great colours that I am going to share them in a series.
Here are some favourite Sherwin Williams Warm Grays:
1. Colonnade Gray SW 7641
Hands down, my favourite warm gray by Sherwin Williams. Some say it’s comparable to Benjamin Moore’s Revere Pewter but I think it has a bit more colour and is a lot nicer. A really beautiful light gray. We painted our basement in this colour.
2. Modern Gray – SW 7632
I love that they used it on the ceiling in this bathroom and it compliments the warm tones in the Carrera Marble tiles. Beautiful!
3. City Loft – SW 7631
I just choose this paint colour for a client for two bathrooms and both with cream/tan tiles so I can’t wait to see it all come together. This colour is more of a really light greige that looks amazing with a white trim and light wood floors!
4 Agreeable Gray – SW 7029
A beautiful gray that looks stunning with natural wood tones, sisal rug and creamy white trim. How gorgeous is this dining room! LOVE it!
5. Worldly Gray – SW 7043
This warm gray has a bit more colour than the others but is not too much. It looks fabulous with the med/darke wood tones and metals.

6. Anew Gray – SW 7030
I love this gray with the purple and silver and mixed gray tones. A lovely relaxing retreat. So pretty!

trying to decide on a gray for my kitchen. I have black granite countertop with a little silver sparkle. In process of backsplash – marble subway. I think a warm gray for the walls might be the right choice, but I need advice on that.
Hi Marlene,
What colour are your cabinets?
Thanks,
Toni
I love functional gray but think it maybe too dark for whole house, I also love colonnade of Edgecombe city loft…what would go well if I do a little of the functional
Hi Shelly,
Colonnade and Edgecomb are very similar and City Loft is much lighter but all would go with Functional Gray. My first choice would be Edgecomb.
Hope this helps.
Toni
Not sure about using the functional in that area at all because no light…what about the Alpaca…my bedroom is Dark French Gray or Classic and the light French Gray in my Master bath… I love those
Hi Shelly,
Best way to decide is to paint the different colours on larger pieces of paper and tape them up on the wall using white paper as a back drop. They you can see how they will look at different times of the day in different light. All the colours you have chosen are lovely.
Good luck!
Toni
Hi have chosen Acier as an accent and nuetral ground for most of my house. Getting ready to finally paint. Any suggestions on a nuetral to go with Acier
Hi Shelly,
I think you have chosen two colours that will compliment each other nicely. I’m not sure what exactly you are asking me? Are you looking for a third paint colour?
Thanks,
Toni
Hi Toni! We have chocolate brown trim in our home and we are about to paint our 2 story great room walls. Revere Pewter was recommended by our stager but our painter gets a great discount on SW. Would the Colonnade Gray work with our trim color? We have a ton of natural light coming in. Please see image below:

Hi Dean,
Thanks for your question and Colonnade Gray looks exactly like Revere Pewter but would you consider changing your trim colour? I think the Chocolate Brown will be to orange/brown and I would consider either SW Urbane Bronze or SSW Gauntlet Gray? If you want to keep the trim colour the Chocolate Brown then consider painting the walls SW Mindful Gray or SW On the Rocks.
Hope this helps.
Toni
What are your thoughts on the anew gray against off white cabinets and off white subway tile? We’ve tried repose, mindful, and requisite gray and none of them seem to win us over.
HI Alison,
I think anew gray will look really nice against off white cabinets. It’s a warmer gray so will give a nice soft look.
Hope this helps.

Hi Toni –
I’m preparing to paint and carpet my rental condo to prepare it for sale. I’d like to use one of the warm grays above but wondering what color you’d suggest for the carpeting. I live in the cloudy northwest. What would you suggest to make the condo most appealing?
Thanks/David
Hi David,
I would stick with a light gay or beige mixed low pile carpet. A carpet with specks of other colours always hide dirt better and it it’s a rental that will be helpful.
Good luck!
Toni
I have city loft SW 7631 on my walls, trying to make accent wall , for wall with beach walk ledge stone fireplace and white trims.. Which color suits well for accent, please suggest
Hi Vidya,
I usually don’t recommend an accent wall colour as I like to keep the wall all the same but try Benjamin Moore Stonington Gray HC-170.
Happy Painting.
Toni
I am renovating our kitchen soon. Its an old bungalow house and am planning to tear down the wall to open it up with our living/dining room. We are planning for a white kitchen cabinets and countertop/backsplash. What’s the best grey colours to paint the walls.
Hi Eddie,
There are so many different grays and without seeing the flooring and surrounding rooms/furniture I can’t pick a specific one. I would be happy to work with you if you want look at an online consultaion and send me some pictures. http://www.tonischeferdesign.com/online-services/
Thanks,
Toni

Hi Denise,
Have a look at SW Collonade Gray or SW On The Rocks.
Hope this helps.
Toni

Hi Toni! Great article and advice! I am building a new house and just picked out the interior paint yesterday. We went with city Loft, but I am not sure it is the right choice, (it could be, but would really like your advice) we have all white cabinets throughout the whole house. Here is a pic of the model home interior

I don’t know if i will be having an accent. wall and the wood flooring will be a shade darker then what is pictured. We have light cream leather sofas as well. I was wondering if I can or should stick with City Loft since I think i would like something darker. If i go darker it will be through the entire house (unless i do an accent again)
My wife doesn’t want something depressing and dreary and i don’t want too light that I might as well have white (lol) any suggestions? Thank you!!!
Hi Chuck,
With the white cabinets and light flooring as well as your light furniture I would probably suggest a shade or two darker than city loft. Have a look at Sherwin Williams On the Rocks. Its’ still bright and light but has a bit more depth.
Hope this helps.
Toni
Hi Tony,
Bought a new house and am aiming for transitional Santa Barbara feel Although I like BM, we get a discount on SW. What are your thoughts on Fundamental White (trim), Pure Silk (walls) and Origami White in flat (ceilings). It has beautiful dark wood floors and will be integrating champagne bronze fixtures.
Hi Claudia,
Sounds amazing and I like your colour palette.
Cheers,
Toni
I wish Collenade looked that way for me. I tried it in my kitchen. one side of the cabinets looked like yours and above the cabinets, it turned lavender.
Hi Tammy,
Try Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter. They are really similar. It’s funny how colours change in the light to totally different colours and on different walls.
Toni
Hi Toni,
I just painted my bedroom Anew Gray and love it also. I like that it changes throughout the day and appears gray on some walls and more of a greige on others.
I plan to paint my kitchen and dining room soon. My cabinets are heart pine, the island and all the trim is SW Antique White. I don’t like that there is such a yellow tint in the trim, but I’m stuck with it for now. Could you recommend a white wall color that would work well with Antique White?
Also which of the grays would you use with Antique White.
Thank you so much for your time!
Tracy
HI Tracy,
I would suggest Benjamin Moore Simply White for a wall colour and SW Mindful Gray.
Good luck.
Toni
I have an open concept living room, dining room and kitchen area. I am stuck for now with golden oak cabinets. What Sherwin Williams gray or greige color would you suggest? I have been struggling with a choice for over a year.
Thanks so much,
Laura
Hi Laura,
Look for a gray or greige with some blue undertones with the golden oak cabinets. I love SW Reflection but it can look blue in some lights or try SW On The Rocks.
Hope this helps.
Toni
I want to take the plunge with Anew gray, but I’m scared with my antique white trim and doors! I’m afraid it will make the woodwork take on a yellow tinge, no?
Hi Melanie,
Paint a larger sample cardboard and compare it with the woodwork. Best to use a larger white piece behind it so you can get the true colour. Anew gray does have a green undertone so shouldn’t make things look yellow.
Good luck.
Toni
Hi Toni-
I have a cathedral ceiling/skylighted mostly bright family room which joins to a kitchen with less light. I have a beige – Bleeker Beige in my 2 story foyer, and I would like to paint the family room/kitchen a warm gray.
Right now I have a heavy color in the family room, and I want something lighter and more fresh but without looking washed out. I am in between Colonade gray and Agreeable Gray. I am going to buy a medium gray couch (perhaps a mottled tone to keep the dog hair at bay), and I would love to do navy accents.
I have read Colonade gray is more greige than Agreeable gray. But I was wondering if Colonade would be too dark for my darker corners and walls
Hi Amy,
Sorry for my late reply but I have been away. I love Colonnade gray and don’t think it will be too dark. I have used it in a basement that didn’t have much natural light and it was the perfect neutral.
Hope this helps.
Toni
Hi Toni,
I just submitted a message about trim in a new house and suggestions on wall and ceiling color. I realized that the trim that I thought was Chopsticks, based on a paint can I found in the garage, is actually a custom color. Whew! The 7575 that I thought was Chopsticks is actually the store number.
The BAC colorant is 0Z. 32. 64. 128
B1 Black 1. – 1. –
Y3 Deep Gold. – 5. – –
I have no idea what the trim color might be close to, but I’m relieved it isn’t Chopsticks. It is much more of a warm, creamy white.
I’d still love your suggestions and any tips of narrowing in on what color the trim might be.
Thanks!
Hi Amanda,
I apologize but I’m not sure what colour that would be? IF it’s a creamy white then stick with a gray that has some green undertones like SW Colonnade Gray. If you would like to get deeper into it we can always do an online consult and you can send pictures with would be more helpful for me.
Thanks,
Toni
Thank you SO much! I just got Agreeable Gray to test and Collonade is definitely going into the dining room. I appreciate it! I love your blog!!
Your articles are wonderful!
Perhaps you can steer me in the right direction. Our home has knotty pine ceilings that are really tall. (We live in a mountain resort type community). What would be a nice light neutral color that could carry throughout the whole house? Would something with light gray or greige undertones work?
Hi Sheila,
With high pine ceilings have a look at Benjamin Moore Simply White which would look beautiful throughout.
Thanks for reading,
Toni
Thanks for the suggestion, Toni. I really appreciate it.
Hi Toni,
Love your Site. I have an open concept kitchen/family room with southern exposure. The cabinets are birch but am adding an island and looking for a darker grey/greige colour to compliment existing cabinets and a lighter greige for the walls. Counters are black quartz with grey and taupe . Thinking that Collonade or BM Stone Hearth on the walls might work but unsure of where to go with island colour. BM Rockport Grey maybe? I don’t want blue, green undertones.
Hi Sandra,
I would need to see pictures of your cabinets and flooring to make any suggestions. You can send me an email and we can discuss. [email protected]
Thanks,
Toni
We opened up our kitchen, living room and dining room. We have red oak cabinets. Something what a warm gray color would work best? I’m looking at Mindful gray or colonnade. Also doing a white trim and doors. We have windows on the east and west. What would you suggest?

Hello,
I am updating my house and want to use one color (the model homes near me, use one color). I have a two story family room that gets in a lot of light. My hardwood floors are golden oak and kitchen is white with black granite. I can’t go too gray, because of my furniture. I have white trim. Would City Loft be too light or is something like Edgecomb Gray be better? Thank you!

Wanting a warm grey that goes with white cabinetry, dark wood floors, light taupe sofas and cooler ivory rugs. Wanting it to be light warm grey?
Thank You!
