I am so happy to find some time to sit down and write a new blog post. 🙂 It has been way too long and I intend to get back into my weekly or bi-weekly posts. I am looking forward to sharing before and after pics and do’s and dont’s from our renovation.

I think it will be easier to do each room or two rooms at a time then I won’t bombard you with one massive post. So with that said here is the first post of our home renovation which is the main bathroom upstairs. Brace yourself for the before pictures. We tore down the whole house to the studs except two rooms as well as added on more square footage.

Here is the bathroom before….don’t you love the pink!

There was a lot going on in this bathroom…even back in the day when these finishes were current there is way too many patterns happening in this room and the vanity is way too big. (You could barely walk by it)

We took everything out but kept the layout of the bathroom which saves cost as we didn’t need to move any plumbing. Because this was going to be a guest bathroom I wasn’t concerned about much storage and in order to make the room more efficient and roomy I added a pedestal sink instead of a vanity.

I also added wainscoting to give the room some interest to the room and it goes well with pedestal sink.

I used three different types of tile in this bathroom. The porcelain marble looking tile for the floor, the basic 3″ x 12″ white subway for the shower (my go to) and the mosaic for an accent tile.

Try not to go over three different tiles in one room it gets too busy.

I did add a cabinet above the toilet for some storage for guests and extra toiletries.

I also added a medicine cabinet mirror for extra storage.

I am in love with the floor tile from Ames. I also used it in the master shower on the walls. However, if I was to redo this bathroom the only change I would make would be to use a matt finish instead of glossy. Only because it’s a pain to wash as you need to dry it right after so there are no streaks. I do love the glossy finish though. The 12″ x 24″ tiles were installed in a 1/3 pattern which I prefer personally instead of the basic brick pattern.

I love how this bathroom reno turned out and I hope my guest enjoy it when they come visit. 🙂
