CHOOSING EXTERIOR PAINT COLOURS – A FEW THINGS TO CONSIDER

Summer is just around the corner and it’s a great time to start thinking of your exterior style and design. Does the exterior of your home need a new fresh coat of paint? If so, now is the time to start looking at hiring a professional and choosing some new paint colours.  But with so many different colours to choose from it can be a bit overwhelming.  Painting the exterior of your home is very different then painting the interior because It’s not as easy to just paint over if you don’t like the colour. Here are a few things to consider before choosing your exterior colours.

1. Existing elements – these are things that you can’t change like the roof, chimney and driveway. You want to have harmony and balance so choose colours that blend with these elements.

2. Landscape – look at the colour of the landscaping and any blooming flowers and trees.  You want to choose colours that blend with the surrounding pallet. I love how the door colour in the house below matches the flowers in the window planter.

3. Neighbors – what colours are the surrounding homes painted?  Choose colours that will blend with the homes around you.

4. Style of neighborhood  Do you live in a heritage neighborhood or a modern one?
